Commander League Rulebook

Mr. E Comics Commander League Rulebook 1.4.1

Last Updated 3/14/2022

Our Mission:

Our Commander League is intended to reward our players for participating in our events and enhance their Commander gameplay experience here at the store. This league should be casual and welcoming to new players. Though we want all players to have an enjoyable time, we think its most important to maintain a nontoxic and friendly culture. This document was created with the intention of protecting new and casual players and to serve as a warning for bad behavior.

Communication:

If you ever have questions or concerns, feel free to approach any Mr. E Comics employee about them. If those issues are serious or personal, feel free to directly speak with Brian Lindblom, the owner, or Kyle Salazar, the administrator of this league. We want your feedback, and we are always trying to improve our league.

Rules:

1.0: Basic Behavior and Commander Rule 0

1.1: All players are responsible for determining the table’s power level.

·          1.1.1: When the table establishes any ground rules and they are blatantly broken during the game, we consider this bad behavior. While this may not always require action from the store, consistently ruining other players’ experiences this way could lead to scoresheet nullification or complete disqualification from the season.

·          1.1.2: Exploiting new players in any manner is never allowed and we take this issue very seriously. We reserve the right to separate players as necessary.

·          1.1.3: We understand that even with a rule 0 conversation, players may still have drastically different expectations for a game. Thus, our intention isn’t to punish those that have differing opinions, but to make sure to reduce toxicity to the best of our ability.

1.2: All players are responsible for their behavior

·          1.2.1: Players should exhibit sportsmanlike behavior in and out of the game. We understand that commander games can be frustrating, but consistently exhibiting negative behavior can result in scoresheet nullification or complete disqualification from the season.

·          1.2.2: Players should be aware of the culture and sensitivities of the people around them. Though obscenities are not banned from being used, you are responsible for being aware of your surroundings. We want the store to be a welcoming environment for everyone.

·          1.2.3: Players should never physically engage each other or roughly handle other’s cards in any way. This can result in complete disqualification from the season or being banned from returning to the store.

·          1.2.4: Players should never engage in any form of bribery, throwing, or fixing matches. This is unacceptable and can result in complete disqualification from the season for any parties involved.

o    1.2.4.1: As of Kamigawa, Neon Dynasty season forward, the scoresheet prompts players to choose who they had the most fun with. Any kind of agreement to choose a particular person in this field will have both parties’ scoresheets nullified. And any further issue will result in complete disqualification.

2.0: Scored Game Basic Rules

2.1: All players must decide to score at the beginning of the game.

·          2.1.1: As of Kamigawa, Neon Dynasty season forward, the three lowest scores each player scores each season will be dropped. Missed weeks count towards these scores.

o    2.1.1.1: Bonus points earned from events of any kind are unaffected

2.2: Players should review each other’s scoresheets at the end of the game.

·          2.2.1: If you ever feel a player is tampering with scoresheets, please report this immediately. This can result in scoresheet nullification, complete disqualification from the season, or being banned from returning to the store.

·          2.2.2: If you ever spot a player cheating in a scored game, please report this immediately. This can result in scoresheet nullification or complete disqualification from the season.

2.3: We reserve the right to choose who you will score against. Our intention in separating players will always be to better the overall player experience.

·          2.3.1: As of Kamigawa, Neon Dynasty season, we reserve the right to ask high scoring players to score with specific players in order to preserve fairness for other players.

2.4: Throwing games or allowing players to “farm” points is against the spirit of the league. Though we may not immediately act on this, we may take steps to prevent this behavior and reserve the right to deal with repeatedly problematic players.

·          2.4.1: We encourage players who are not scoring to treat scoring players as though they were anyone else. Treating a scoring player differently is against the spirit of the league.

2.5: Players cannot lose points from participating in a scored game.

2.6: Players must choose their scoresheet before the game starts if applicable.

2.7: We may track wins in our records. Therefore, it is important to distinguish the difference between a tie and a win. Ties are not wins, so they do not count towards your total season wins. Any game in which the last remaining players all lose at the same time, be it by conceding or otherwise, is a tie.

3.0: Events

3.1: We will often run events for Commander League or events that tie into our Commander League. We may offer points for event participation and will often offer double points on these nights. Unfortunately, we cannot offer make up nights or any such alternative. You must be present to score a game.

·          3.1.1: We can however accommodate players that inform us of their situation as we choose to. As stated previously this will never allow them to score on a later date.

4.0: Scoresheets

4.1: Our scoresheets change with the release of each standard Magic the Gathering set. Though we may make changes based on other Magic sets that have recently released. A scoresheet change does not mean a new season has started.

·          4.1.1: As of Kamigawa, Neon Dynasty season forward, the scoresheets will have random conditions each week. Players are not able to see these conditions until the day of the event.

4.2: We reserve the right to adjust our scoresheets as we see fit. We may come to the realization certain points are too easy or difficult, and to improve the player experience we may make changes to the scoresheets.

·          4.2.1: We will not revoke points from previous weeks exclusively because we changed a scoresheet.

4.3: As of Kamigawa Neon Dynasty Season, scoresheets are dated and can only be used on the date on the sheet. If a scoresheet is submitted with the wrong date, it will not be counted.

5.0: Prizing

5.1: The top three players will receive varying amounts of in-store credit and a chance to win a free booster box at the end of the season.

5.2: The remaining top ten players will receive a prize and a chance to win a free booster box.

5.3: Any poor or unsportsmanlike behavior are grounds to lose the right to any prizes earned during the season.

6.0: The Rules

6.1: As the host of this Commander League. We reserve the right to make additions and changes to the rules as we see necessary.
